EASY

What You'll Need:

  • food coloring

How To:

  1. 1

Remove the tank lid. Carefully lift the lid off of the toilet’s tank and place it aside.

  2. 2

Put five or six drops of food coloring in the toilet tank. Once your water is a colorful hue, place the lid back on top of the tank. Lift up your toilet seat so you can see the bowl.

  3. 3

Don’t flush for at least a half hour. After 30 minutes, check your toilet water in the toilet bowl. If it’s colorful, you have a leak! Colored water in the bowl means that you have a slow leak between the toilet and the tank.

  4. 4

You have a leaky toilet. Now what? First, make sure that the problem cannot be diagnosed and fixed with these tips. If the leak seems to be more severe, contact a professional plumber.
