Cleaning your plants’ leaves does more than make your house look nice – it helps your plants survive! A layer of dust on leaves blocks sunlight and reduces a plant’s ability to photosynthesize, which is basically how they feed themselves. Keep your plants nourished by cleaning their leaves with one of these methods:
The spray method. Mix lukewarm water with a small amount of dish soap in a plastic spray bottle. Spray your leaves until the dust is gone, and then wipe away any excess liquid. Note: Small plants can’t always handle the force of a spray bottle. If your plant is just a little guy, move on to the next method.
The wipe method. If your plant is small or somewhat fragile, use this method instead of spraying your plant directly with water. Grab a damp cloth and wipe away the dust. Be gentle!
The brush method. If you have a plant with sticky or fuzzy leaves, you probably don’t want to get them wet. Instead, use dry, old paintbrushes to gently dust your leaves.
