These heart-shaped crayons are so easy to make that even the busiest, most craft-challenged person can pull it off. Not only will they make a great homemade Valentine’s Day gift, they’re also a perfect for an afternoon project with the kids!
Preheat your oven. Once you’ve gathered your supplies, preheat your oven to 150 degrees. If you have a metal baking mold, now is the time to spray a little cooking spray onto the molds before you bake. This will make it easier to remove the crayons once they’re done.
Choose your crayon colors. Select what colors you would like to melt into your heart molds. If you don’t have any broken crayon pieces, use a dull knife to chop whole crayons into small pieces. Remove the paper from the crayons. Tip: To easily remove any paper, soak them in hot water for several minutes.
Fill the molds. Add your crayon pieces to the heart-shaped molds. Fill up the mold about a third of the way (around 4-5 crayon pieces). To give your hearts a little sparkle, add some glitter to the bottom of the molds before you add the crayons!
Place and bake. Carefully place your baking mold in the oven. If you have a flexible mold like the one we used, put the mold on a baking sheet first, so it’s easier to remove once they’re done. Bake until the wax is completely melted (about 10 minutes).
Remove and cool. With your oven mitt, remove the tray from the oven and let it completely cool before you remove your new multicolored, sparkly crayon from their molds. Once cooled, flip over your mold and press down to pop them out. Tip: If your crayons stick in your mold, place the tray in the freezer for a half hour and try to pop them out again.
