Whether your side tables tend to hold stacks of books and magazines, or they serve as a catchall for your electronics, they’re always convenient! But, they’re not always the style (or price) that fits your needs. If you’re in the market for a new side table, think DIY! This unique side table can be made in just five minutes.

Find a wastebasket. Locate a nice looking, clean wastebasket that is at least knee height. If you don’t have an attractive wastebasket on hand, we like this option from Amazon. Tip: Choose a wastebasket material that can hold spray paint well and is sturdy (wire and wicker are both great).
Flip it upside down. Turn the wastebasket upside down and inspect the bottom. Does it look like it can hold a couple of afternoon cocktails? Good! You want a side table with an even surface.
Apply a coat of paint. Step outside or lay down a few sheets of newspaper, and then give your wastebasket a nice, even coating of spray paint. Note: Depending on the material of your wastebasket, it may need more than one coat.
Set to dry. Allow your new wastebasket-turned-table masterpiece to fully dry before using it as an end table in your living room or a nightstand in your bedroom. That’s it!
