The Least-Gross Way To Save A Ring from the Drain

Doing the dishes seems like a pretty innocuous task. Not a ton can go wrong. Unless you wear a lot of rings!

Losing rings to the sink-monster is a real bummer (if it’s a wedding ring, it can be a major bummer). Even if your sink comes with a trap to keep your rings out of the sewer, opening the trap bend is pretty nasty because of all the food bits and whatever else you've put down there.

Here’s a better way:

Get your hands on a Mighty Magnet. (We recommend ordering one online and keeping it beneath your sink, just in case.) Crawl down there and detach the pipe from your sink only. Move the magnet along the pipe trap (it’s shaped like a “U”) until you hear a metallic clink. The magnet has found your ring! Then, slowly draw your magnet to the top of the pipe and grab your ring.

Done and done. No interaction with half-eaten food required.

Tip: If rings-down-the-drain is something that's happening to you on the reg, buy a cute ring holder! (We like this one, because...elephants.)
