You probably wash your hands before you eat, but what about your produce? Even if you buy organic groceries, fruits and vegetables can have an alarming amount of pesticides and bacteria on their surface.
The secret to this all-natural fruit and vegetable wash is the combined acidity of vinegar and lemon juice, which kills bacteria, removes pesticide residue and helps dissolve the waxy coating often found on produce such as apples or cucumbers (which water alone doesn’t do).
Use this DIY recipe to keep your produce clean and pesticide-free!
Mix together the water, lemon juice and white vinegar in your measuring cup.
Carefully pour the solution into your spray bottle. Shake well to combine.
Liberally coat your fruit and vegetables with the spray. Then, use a clean brush to gently scrub your produce. Rinse under cold water and serve as you normally would. You now have fruit and veggies free of pesticides and bacteria!
To Store: Place the spray bottle in the fridge once you’re finished. This homemade fruit and vegetable wash will remain potent for up to one month.
