Do you know how cold your fridge and freezer are right this instant?
Fridge and freezer temperatures aren’t something most people spend a lot of time thinking about, but you probably eat something from them every day! Your perishables have very specific temperature needs, so do a quick check and make sure your icebox is up to snuff so that your food is safe.
Refrigerator: 40 degrees F (4 degrees C) or lower
Freezer: 0 degrees F (-18 degrees C)
Your fridge and freezer may have an internal thermometer that you can check, but the most accurate way to measure is with an appliance thermometer (they cost less than $10).
Make a point to check your fridge and freezer temperatures every few months to make sure your food is safe. It’s much better to find out about a problem from a thermometer than from a shelf of rotting food!
