They may be small and easy to squash, but a mosquito’s bite is much worse than its bark. Yes, they’re irritating and can ruin your barbeque, but they can also be dangerous! In fact, mosquitoes can carry a number of deadly diseases like West Nile, malaria, dengue fever and yellow fever. They also carry heartworm, which can be lethal to your dog.
The most effective and easiest way to reduce the number of mosquitoes around your home is to eliminate any standing water – mosquitoes love to breed in it! Check your yard to make sure there is no standing water in flowerpots, or any other garden containers. If you’re out in nature on a hike and can’t control the standing water, protect yourself from mosquitoes by wearing light clothing. For more mosquito prevention tips, read: Pest Control: Mosquitoes.
