Are there ants in your pants or are they crawling around your kitchen? Wherever the ants may roam, they can be a nuisance. Before you pick up a weapon and declare war, it’s important to know thy enemy.

For example, did you know that ants can lift 20 times their own body weight? Or that they don’t need much water to survive? The more you know, the better job you can do defending your territory. Plus, call us tools, but we think pests can be pretty interesting.

Ant Facts:

  • Ants live in colonies, just like the early Americans.

  • Ants are attracted to sweet things, so keep the lid tight on your jam.

  • One ant, the queen ant, produces all of the offspring for the entire colony.

  • Ants are fast. If a man could run like an ant, he would run as fast as Seabiscuit.

  • The average lifespan of an ant is 40-60 days.

  • The most common ants, black ants, can squirt formic acid from their mouths if they feel threatened.
  •
  • Ants communicate with each other by touching antennae.

  • There are 35,000 species of ants in the world (and 60 species in North America).

  • Cinnamon is basically ant Kryptonite. Deter them by lining your walkways and doors with cinnamon.
