Failure to maintain your appliances can be as damaging to your culinary creations as a scratched pan or a rusty pot. Complete each of these 30-minute to-dos to help ensure your recipe reaches its full potential.
Oven – Cleaning your oven can help combat uneven cooking times and unnecessary smells while keeping your home safe from fires. In 30 minutes or less, you can start a self-cleaning cycle, replace the oven light and check your gasket to make sure it seals in heat. Inconsistent cooking times can translate to lopsided cakes, overcooked casserole and a bruised culinary ego.
Cooktop – Sometimes, creating a feast means creating a mess. The result? Even with a quick wipe down, food particles can get caught in your cooktop. These particles attract rodents and are fuel for grease fire. Twice a year, give your cooktop a thorough scrub, make sure the burner holes aren’t clogged, and clean the drip pans under electric coils.
Fridge – Even grandma’s timeless tart recipe won’t survive spoiled milk. Keep your food fresh – and your family healthy – by maintaining your refrigerator and freezer. Check your fridge to make sure it’s closing tightly, cooling properly and the water and ice coming from the dispenser are fresh.
