Your work is never done – there’s always one more chore to complete before you can chill. From important checkups of major systems to repairing your front door, it can start to feel like your to-do list is also a cash drain. Why not give your wallet a break by trying these free ways to help your home?
A few are design ideas, and a handful are important home maintenance tasks, but they all have one thing in common – none of them will cost you a dime!
Relocate a spare dresser. Is there a dresser in your guest bedroom that’s eternally empty? Move it into your kitchen or dining room where you’ll actually use it! Dressers are perfect for holding things like plates and cookware, plus they’ll give your room a unique look.
Put toiletries in cups and bowls. Now that you’ve brought a newcomer into the kitchen, grab some infrequently-used tableware and put it to use in the bathroom! Cups and bowls are great for holding things like toothbrushes, cotton balls and makeup brushes.
Inspect important areas of your house. One of the easiest ways to save money around the house is by regularly inspecting parts of your house that are prone to damage or infestation. If you haven’t done this in a while, start with your attic, basement and garage door.
Go minimalist. Nothing costs less than getting rid of stuff. If you’re feeling industrious, you could even try to sell your unused items on eBay or at an old-fashioned garage sale. If you’re not sure what you can get rid of, brush up on the minimalist lifestyle.
Frame strange stuff. Who says frames are only for pictures and paintings? Try throwing a scarf or even an old map into a frame to create a unique decoration. (This may not be completely free if you don’t have any spare frames lying around the house.) No matter what you frame, make sure you hang it properly!
