In case you’ve been living under a (colorless) rock for the past few months, we have huge news: Pantone has chosen their 2013 color of the year. It’s emerald – a lively, radiant, lush green! We support this choice in a big way. Green is the most dominant color in nature so our eyes accept it easily, which makes it a great addition to any room in the house.
Ready to jump on the emerald train? Here’s are a few places to start:
Living room. Add a pop of color to your living room by painting an accent wall emerald or revitalize an old coffee table with a fresh coat of paint. If you’re not sure how you’ll feel about the color in a few weeks, stick to small, inexpensive accents like throw pillows, new lampshades or a colorful vase to fill with fresh flowers.
Bedroom. Green is the most restful color for the human eye, so using it in your bedroom will help promote a sense of tranquility and calmness. Consider choosing emerald for an upholstered headboard or hang up some new wall art with matching frames.
Bathroom. If you think your shower could use a new curtain, this is the perfect opportunity to decorate with emerald! Shower curtains are like duvet covers – they’re an easy way to revamp the style of a room without spending a lot of dough for an entire makeover. For a more subtle approach, try emerald-colored soap dishes, bathmats or bath towels.
Kitchen. We don’t suggest springing for all-new appliances in Pantone’s new hue (that’s a little excessive), but there are smaller items you can incorporate into your kitchen with this color. Keep it simple with tabletop décor, tea towels, placemats or color-swatch coffee mugs.
