We love January. Not because the 27th is Chocolate Cake Day (although that’s a great reason, too), but because every January, Pantone announces it’s Color of the Year!

2013 was a great year for all things Emerald. This year, we’re looking forward to bringing Pantone’s Radiant Orchid into our homes! Radiant Orchid by Pantone is designed to be a mix between fuchsia, purple and pink. It’s described as being an “expressive, creative and embracing purple.” So, in other words, perfect for home décor.

Here are a few places you can bring this color into your home:

Living Room

The living room – basically the focal point of your home – is a great place to test out Pantone’s color of the year. Purchase a few throw pillows in Radiant Orchid, or scour Etsy for the perfect art print to hang on your wall. By decorating with smaller items, it will be easy to rearrange the space if you get tired of the color down the road.

Bedroom

Believe it or not, purple is known to improve your sex life, so decorating with Radiant Orchid in this space might have more than a few benefits! This doesn’t mean you need to go all-out and paint your walls, though. Start small by adding a decorative flower vase to your nightstand. Then, consider purchasing an accent chair or duvet cover in this color tone.

Kitchen

Keep it simple in the kitchen by adding small Radiant Orchid accessories, such as tea towels, placemats and saltshakers. Although we love the idea of a matching table set in Pantone’s new hue, you can also purchase Pantone’s signature coffee mug if you don’t feel like spending big bucks for new dinnerware.

Parties

We have a secret: Poms are pretty much the most stylish party decoration ever. And, when they’re in the hue of Radiant Orchid, they’re even better! Whether you’re throwing a Pantone-themed party or just a regular old birthday bash, use this purple to add a splash of color to your next party. If you can’t find poms, try garlands or confetti in this color.
