Are Your Walls Ruining Your Sex Life?

If you read 50 Shades of Grey and thought, “Wow, they’re having way more sex than me!” you’re not alone. You’re also probably normal – Anastasia and Christian are not the average couple. But that doesn’t mean you can’t pump up the bedroom excitement with a small décor change. If your love life has been feeling a little drab lately, the color of your walls may be responsible.

The effects of color on people’s behavior have been documented for years, and just like appetite and metabolism, your sex-drive can be affected by the paint on your walls. What’s the biggest turn-on color out there?

That’s right, the same color that you see on grape Skittles and eggplants also makes you randy. A study of 2,000 couples showed that people with purple bedrooms tend to have sex almost 3.5 times a week! Watch out Mr. Grey.

Incidentally, the color gray kills the mood almost as effectively as a bout of food poisoning. Couples in gray rooms only had sex 1.8 times a week (according to the same study). Green and beige can also put a great big chill between the sheets.

If purple isn’t really your thing, don’t give up on love just yet. Red and sky-blue are also perfectly respectable turn-ons—both hues got couples knockin' boots more than 3 times a week.

Ready to redecorate? Nice! Just make sure you don’t overpay for that bucket of indigo paint.
