When the going gets tough, we say grab a zip tie! These handy plastic bands can hold all kinds of shifty household items in place. Here are four prime examples:

Heavy Frame. Antique frames and mirrors are stylish, but they tend to be heavy. And thanks to gravity, heavy frames tend to fall. Show gravity who’s boss by hanging your frames with two zip ties! First, insert two nails into the wall – one on each side about an inch from the frame. Then, loop a zip tie securely around each nail. Loop a second, clear zip tie around the frame itself and then secure the two zip ties together. Once this is done on each side, adjust the ties until the frame is straight. Shower Caddy. A hot, steamy shower is an awesome way to start the day – that is, unless a bottle of shampoo slams into your head because of a loose shower caddy. Ouch! Keep your bath supplies in place by securing your caddy with a zip tie. Simply place the caddy on the neck of the showerhead and then tie a zip tie around the pipe next to the caddy. Tie it tight! The zip tie will keep the caddy in place so you can enjoy your shower without being attacked by a shampoo bottle.

Toilet Handle. A broken toilet handle is unpleasant. (Nobody likes reaching into the back of the toilet and manually pulling the flapper to flush.) If a broken handle happens to you, create a makeshift handle using from two zip ties and a key ring. First, remove the broken handle. Then, attach the first zip tie to the plastic piece that pulls the flapper so the zip tie is secured tightly. Affix the second zip tie to the key ring in the same fashion. Tie the two zip tie tails together and you have yourself a toilet handle! Every time you pull on the key ring, the flapper will lift to flush the toilet.

Closet Hangers. If your mornings tend to be a stressful time, try this trick: Pick clothes out the night before. That way, you can use your precious morning minutes to focus on getting out of the door instead of the best pant/shirt combo. For a makeshift outfit organizer, connect two hangers together with a zip tie. When you’ve determined that a certain top and pants were destined for each other, hang them on the attached hangers to make your morning that much easier!
