2X4: Four Ways to Say Goodbye to Summer

Sadly, summer is coming to a close. Make sure you’re ready for pumpkin lattes and knee-high boots by properly saying goodbye to the season. Here are four final tasks to tick off before autumn is upon us:

1) Make Frozen Treats. Summer may be ending, but the heat isn’t gone yet! Take advantage of these final high temperatures and make fruit ice cubes an icebox pie or even boozicles like these from ManMade DIY. All you need are 2 ½ cups of Coca-Cola, 1/3 cup of Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum, 1/3 cup of Kahlua and popsicle molds. Mix your ingredients in a pitcher, pour your popsicle syrup into your molds and put them in the freezer for at least two hours. Then enjoy!

2) Throw A Yard Sale. If your knickknack collection has crossed into knickknack mountain territory, it may be time to ditch some clutter around the house. Luckily, the end of summer is the perfect time to throw a yard sale! The weather is cooling off and people are staying home on the weekends rather than gallivanting off to a beach or campsite. Why not throw a successful garage sale and make some cash for the upcoming holidays?

3) Store Summer Clothes. It’s almost sweater weather, so don’t waste coveted closet space with your white linen pants and bathing suit cover-ups. Instead, put your clothes in three piles: What’s only worn during the summer, what’s never worn and what you wear year-round. Put your year-round wardrobe back in your closet and toss or donate what you never wear. For your summer clothes, grab a few plastic bins, a couple bags of lavender and store your summer clothes.

4) Clean Your Grill. You’ve hopefully enjoyed an amazing grill season, but it’s time to hang up the old spatula and store your grill for next year. Whether your grill is charcoal or gas, it needs to be cleaned and maintained one last time! Make sure your barbecue is mouth-watering and your kielbasa doesn’t get too crispy next year by taking fifteen minutes now to clean your favorite outdoor cooktop. For step-by-step instructions, read Prep Your Grill. (The tips are the same, we promise!)
