Would you rather spend your evenings relaxing with a book or reaching for a broom? Make your life easier with these four home hacks and cut your chore time in half:

1) Program Your Thermostat. Instead of constantly changing the temperature of your thermostat or blasting your AC 24/7, program it! You can save about $180 a year by changing the temperature of your house throughout the day. A basic programmable thermostat model goes for $25-$80, and will allow you to set up a comfortable, cost efficient temperature schedule in your house. Once your thermostat is running, you can literally forget all about it.

2) Read This Guide. If your busy lifestyle doesn’t allow you time to tackle all of your home’s needs, don’t worry! We have a guide for that. The Lazy Homeowner’s Guide is full of tips, tricks and workarounds designed to save you time and effort around the house. So if you’d rather relax during your free time than suffer through lengthy chores, check it out! For fifteen great home tips, read: The Lazy Homeowner Guide.

3) Buy Unkillable Plants. You can still enjoy houseplants even if you don’t have a green thumb! Plus, houseplants are good for your health. According to NASA, houseplants can significantly reduce the pollution levels of indoor air. However, you can’t reap these air quality benefits if your plants are all dead. So if you have trouble keeping plants alive, try options like the Christmas Cactus or the Chinese Evergreen. They only need to be watered once a week! To learn more about the benefits of houseplants, read: Eight Health Benefits of Houseplants.

4) Dust With A Blow Dryer. Dusting takes time – time you don’t have to spend slaving away over your counters and tabletops! Cut the time this chore takes in half by using a blow dryer! It’s easy. Simply flip your dryer to the cool setting and send the dust flying! Note: Because the blow dryer is moving dust, not sucking it up, this won’t help with allergy or asthma problems!
