2X4: Four Places to Put Polka Dots

Polka dots aren’t just for kids these days – Minnie Mouse’s favorite pattern is all grown-up! Give your home a playful spin by sprinkling them around a room or two. Here are our favorite places to drop some dots:

In the kitchen. Not everyone likes to cook. We get that. If fixing dinner feels like a chore, make the task more fun by using utensils you love. What’s a measuring cup with a few polka dots? A tool that makes you smile! Turn any mundane object into something you enjoy by splashing a few dots here and there. If you’re fully and truly polka dot crazy, consider adding decals to your stove’s backsplash!

In the bathroom. When you’re in a friend’s bathroom, what’s the first thing you notice? It’s probably not the floor tile or the faucet hardware – it’s the shower curtain. Give your shower curtain an update with some polka dots! Besides, the bolder your shower curtain is, the less noticeable your dirty grout will be (although that’s an easy problem to fix).

On the couch. Instead of diving headfirst into the polka-dot thing and plastering your entire entryway with polka dot wallpaper, start with a small design piece in your living room or den. Throw a few polka dot pillows on a solid couch for a grown-up look, or go for a mismatched, bohemian vibe by pairing them with floral pillows. Little known fact: polka dots go really well with other patterns – just make sure you’re working within the same color family!

In the bedroom. If your bedroom has drifted from delightful to drab, make a few changes and throw a new, spotted duvet on your bed. We recommend polka dots for the ultimate night’s sleep – they’re fun, they match pretty much everything and they’ll hide dog hair, dust and dirt. For the happiest bedroom, make sure your polka dot bed gets made every single day.
