Butter makes everything better! If you have a few spare sticks in the fridge, try one of these household tricks. Here are four benefits of extra butter:

1) De-Squeak A Door. Next time your door makes painful music, instead of reaching for a can of WD-40, reach for your refrigerator! Butter works as a lubricant to fix even the squeakiest doors. Simply rub butter on the hinge, and the squeak will disappear. To keep your hands clean, use a butter stick and keep half of the stick wrapped in paper. Note: You may not want to try this if you have a pet! They’ll pay special attention to your door and lick it until the butter is gone. For other ways to de-squeak your door, read: Fix A Squeaky Door.

2) Cut Sticky Foods. Marshmallows, dates, pies and toffee are nearly impossible to cut smoothly! To get a straight line on these hard-to-slice items, spread a thin layer of butter on your sharp knife before slicing. The knife won’t stick and your food will be cut in a perfect straight line! To keep your knives sharp, read: Clean Your Kitchen Knives. To make these tasty marshmallow treats, try this s’more recipe from Donuts, Dresses and Dirt.

3) Make Butter Cookies. The best butter cookies are crumbly, buttery and not too sweet. These popular treats are also known as crisp cookies or Danish biscuits and are similar to shortbread cookies. To make butter cookies, all you need is: butter, sugar, an egg, flour, salt and vanilla. This recipe from Baking Bites is easy to follow and delicious! Cover your butter cookie with sprinkles or shredded coconut and enjoy!

4) Soften Leather Furniture. If your beloved leather chair is cracking, butter will restore its suppleness. Simply rub a very small amount into the furniture with a soft cloth and work it in a circular motion until the butter is absorbed by leather. Remove the excess butter with a buffing cloth to prevent your leather couch from smelling like a snack to your four-legged friends. Note: This trick isn’t exclusive to furniture! Use this to restore softness to leather purses, shoes and even baseball gloves.
